RECOVERY ALIVE CHAMPION (R.A.C) SUPPORT: THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITY (TC) MODEL

The Therapeutic Community (TC) model is an approach commonly used in the treatment of
substance abuse, including alcohol addiction.
COMMUNITY AS METHOD:
Residential Setting: With recommendation by RAC, Ngao makes reversals for clients in need of
further treatment in a residential/inpatient setting where individuals with alcohol addiction live
together in a supportive community.
Structured Environment: The community provides a highly structured and supportive
environment designed to promote personal responsibility, self-help, and mutual support among
residents.
PEER SUPPORT AND INVOLVEMENT:
Peer-Led Approach: Ngao emphasize the importance of peer support. The addiction champions
and community residents actively participate in the treatment process and provide support to
each other.

Peer Role Models: Positive role modeling by RAC who have successfully overcome alcohol
addiction are a powerful motivator for those in the early stages of recovery.

THERAPEUTIC ACTIVITIES:
Group Therapy: Group therapy sessions are a key component of Recovery Alive Champions
Support. These sessions provide a platform for individuals to share experiences, discuss
challenges, and receive feedback in a supportive group setting.
Individual Counseling: While the emphasis is on the community, individual counseling is also
usually provided to address specific needs and issues identified by RAC.
STRUCTURED DAILY ACTIVITIES:
Routine and Responsibility: Residents follow a structured daily routine that includes
responsibilities within the community. This always helps instill a sense of discipline and
purpose.
Work Assignments: The Addiction Counselor assigns a client’s tasks and responsibilities within
the community that contributes to a sense of ownership and accomplishment.
EDUCATION AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT:
Life Skills Training: Ngao offers weekly educational programs and workshops focusing on life
skills, coping mechanisms, and relapse prevention strategies.

Vocational Training: Ngao provides vocational training opportunities in sewing/ tailoring,
electrical, electronics & solar installations, hair beauty, plumbing that helps addiction
recoveries acquire skills that can be valuable upon reintegration into society.

COMMUNITY MEETINGS AND DECISION-MAKING

Democratic Governance: Addiction recoveries actively participate in community meetings
where decisions related to the community are made democratically. This involvement fosters a
sense of responsibility and accountability. This platform provides a platform for conflict
resolution within the community, teaching recoveries healthy ways to resolve interpersonal
issues.
STAGES OF RECOVERY:
Phases of Treatment: Ngao uses the twelve steps (THE BIG BOOK) stages of treatment, each
with its own set of expectations and responsibilities. Advancement through these stages is often
tied to demonstrated progress in recovery.
AFTERCARE AND TRANSITION:
Continued Support: Successful completion of  RAC program is often followed by
aftercare support. This include outpatient counseling, AA support groups, or transitional housing
to help individuals adjust to life outside the structured community.
Community Integration: Preparing individuals for successful reintegration into society is a
crucial aspect. This involve developing a relapse prevention plan, securing employment, and
establishing a support network in the broader community.
Using the Therapeutic Community model Ngao recognizes the importance of the community in
the recovery process, emphasizing mutual support, shared responsibility, and a structured
environment to facilitate positive behavioral changes.
